Fatal Crash on East Mississippi Avenue Injures 2 People [Aurora, CO]

Aurora, CO (July 9, 2026) — A 17-year-old boy died after a high-speed crash on East Mississippi Avenue in Aurora that also injured two other people, according to police.

Officers spotted a suspected stolen Volkswagen Jetta near East Mississippi Avenue and East Alameda Parkway around 4 a.m. on June 28. When the driver refused to stop, officers initiated a pursuit but ended it after about a minute because the vehicle was traveling at high speed and being driven erratically.

Shortly afterward, the Volkswagen crashed into a Subaru WRX near South Havana Street and East Alameda Avenue, nearly six miles from where the pursuit began. The impact caused the Volkswagen to catch fire, and responding officers extinguished the flames.

Investigators believe the teenage driver was speeding westbound on Alameda Avenue and ran a red light before striking the Subaru. The driver, a 23-year-old passenger in the Volkswagen, and the 28-year-old Subaru driver were all taken to the hospital.

The 17-year-old driver later died from his injuries. The Subaru driver has since been released from the hospital, while the Volkswagen passenger remains hospitalized. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased driver.
