Police Investigate Deadly Crash on Highway 40 Near Limon

Limon, CO (August 28, 2025) — One driver died, and one other sustained injuries in a semi crash on Highway 40.

A fatal collision between two semi-trucks shut down Highway 40 early Friday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Troopers received a call about the crash at approximately 1:50 a.m. When they arrived on scene, they found one semi-truck fully engulfed in flames and the other vehicle off the right shoulder of the highway.

Authorities confirmed that one of the truck drivers died at the scene. Emergency crews transported the other driver to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The crash prompted the temporary closure of Highway 40 in both directions as investigators worked to document the scene and clear the wreckage. As of now, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Colorado State Patrol has not released the identities of those involved.
