Oregon Man Killed, Passenger Injured in I-5 Crash Near Lacey; Driver Arrested

Lacey, WA (June 8, 2025) — A late-night crash on Interstate 5 in Lacey left one man dead, injured his passenger, and resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old driver on Friday.

According to investigators, a Ford Mustang carrying a 21-year-old driver and two teenage passengers was traveling southbound on I-5 near milepost 110 at about 11:50 p.m. when it rear-ended a Mazda CX-9 traveling in the same lane.

The impact caused the Mazda to roll onto its passenger side before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the freeway.

The Mazda’s driver, a 50-year-old Oregon man, died at the scene. A 20-year-old woman riding as a passenger suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that the occupants of the Mustang were not injured. Troopers arrested the Mustang driver on suspicion of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

Investigators determined that excessive speed contributed to the crash. Officials stated that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision. The incident closed the roadway for nearly eight hours while crews cleared the scene and conducted their investigation.
