1 Person Dead in San Jose Auto Accident on Highway 85 near Almaden Expressway

SAN JOSE, CA (May 6, 2025) – Sunday night, a fatal DUI crash on Highway 85 near Almaden Expressway killed one person.

The incident happened at around 8:06 p.m. on Highway 85 north of Almaden Expressway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, San Jose, a southbound black 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan veered off the roadway, drove up an embankment, and rolled over. Then, the force of the crash ejected a male passenger from the vehicle, pinning him underneath the vehicle.

Moreover, responders pronounced the ejected passenger dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported the female driver of the vehicle to Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

Furthermore, officers arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as a 48-year-old San Jose woman, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Meanwhile, the crash closed all southbound lanes of Highway 85 for about one hour but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
