Deadly Phelan Auto Accident on Caughlin Road and Dos Palmas Road

PHELAN, CA (August 31, 2025) – Friday night, a person died in a fatal off-road vehicle crash on Caughlin Road and Dos Palmas Road.

The incident happened at 6:38 p.m. on Caughlin Road, just north of Dos Palmas Road.

CHP says a Toyota Corolla carrying two women and one man collided with a Can-Am, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

The male riding in the Can-Am suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital. Authorities have not confirmed whether he was the driver or a passenger. An adult male from the Can-Am was also hospitalized with less severe injuries.

The driver of the Corolla, a man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. One female passenger from the Corolla was also taken to the hospital with injuries.

The Can-Am was destroyed in the roadway, while the Corolla sustained major front-end damage. A large group of family and friends gathered near the crash site, and many broke down in tears after learning of the fatality.
