1 Person Dead in Tempe Auto Accident on State Route 143

TEMPE, AZ (February 19, 2026) – Sunday morning, a fatal wrong-way crash on State Route 143 killed one person.

The incident happened at around 1:00 a.m. on State Route 143.

According to reports, a black car travelling the wrong way collided with another vehicle.

Moreover, officers said that a Good Samaritan witnessed the crash, pulled over, and extricated a person inside a vehicle. Responders pronounced one person dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported one person to a hospital with serious injuries.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
