Police Investigate Crash on Riego Road in Sutter County

SUTTER COUNTY, CA (July 23, 2026)— A multi-vehicle crash on Riego Road on Thursday evening seriously injured one man and left several others with minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Yuba-Sutter officers responded to the collision at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Riego Road near Pacific Avenue.

Investigators said a Honda Odyssey was traveling eastbound on Riego Road when it sideswiped a semi-truck. The impact caused the Honda to lose control before it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna.

The Toyota, which was carrying a family of six, left the roadway after the collision and entered a nearby body of water.

Emergency crews transported the Toyota’s driver, identified by officers as the father of the family, to a local hospital with major injuries. The remaining occupants of the Toyota, including children, sustained minor injuries.

Authorities also reported that the Honda driver suffered injuries, although officials have not released information regarding that person’s condition.

The collision temporarily closed the roadway while emergency responders assisted those involved and investigators examined the scene.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
