1 Person Dead in Hemphill County Auto Accident on US 83 near Canadian

HEMPHILL COUNTY, TX (November 18, 2025) – Saturday night, Fernando Escalante died in a tragic vehicle crash on US 83 near Canadian.

The incident happened at around 6:15 p.m. on northbound US 83 near Canadian.

According to reports, a northbound 2014 Jeep Wrangler struck a deer standing in the northbound lane. Then, the Jeep swerved hard to the left, skidded across the roadway and rolled over. Also, the force of the crash ejected the driver of the Jeep into the roadway.

Moreover, responders pronounced the driver of the Jeep, identified s 60-year-old Fernando Escalante, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported two passengers of the vehicle, identified as 65-year-old Marina Escalante, 59-year-old Aburto Quintil Dominguez, to an area hospital with serious injuries.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the Texas Department of Public Safety continued investigating the crash.
