Escondido Driver Fernando Saldana Arrested in Carlsbad Boulevard Fatal Crash [Carlsbad, CA]

Carlsbad, CA (September 17, 2026) – The authorities arrested 26-year-old Fernando Saldana of Escondido following a Carlsbad Boulevard fatal crash Tuesday night.

Police responded before 8 p.m. to a hit-and-run crash at the 3800 block area, and found a person suffering from grave injuries.

Immediately, rescuers transported the victim to a hospital, where they later died.

The suspect vehicle, on the other hand, fled the crash scene.

Using the evidence left at the scene and the information given by community members, the authorities located the suspect vehicle approximately a mile from the crash scene.

Police then arrested Saldana on leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury or death, suspicion of murder, suspected DUI causing injury or death and gross vehicular manslaughter. They booked him into the Vista Detention Facility

Troopers also stated that Saldana has a prior DUI conviction, and that they suspect alcohol as a contributing factor in this collision.
