Police Investigate Crash on Palmdale Road in Victorville

VICTORVILLE, CA (August 19, 2026)— Two drivers were hospitalized Tuesday after a fiery three-vehicle crash on Palmdale Road in Victorville, while another driver allegedly fled the scene on foot, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The collision occurred on August 18, 2026, in the 13,000 block of Palmdale Road near Emerald Road, west of Cobalt Road.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said deputies responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision in the area.

According to investigators, one driver was traveling eastbound in the No. 1 lane of Palmdale Road at a high rate of speed when the vehicle collided with another vehicle traveling westbound in the No. 1 lane.

The impact pushed the westbound vehicle into a third vehicle that was also traveling westbound, authorities said.

Witnesses reported that one of the vehicles caught fire following the collision. Firefighters responded and extinguished the flames.

Authorities said the driver accused of causing the initial collision fled the scene on foot and was not located at the time of the report. A sheriff’s helicopter assisted deputies in searching the surrounding area.

The other two drivers were transported to a hospital for treatment. Firefighters initially reported two patients with non-life-threatening injuries and requested two ambulances.

Officials temporarily closed Palmdale Road in both directions while emergency crews treated the injured, investigators examined the scene, and workers removed the damaged vehicles.

Authorities did not immediately provide descriptions of the three vehicles involved.

The Victorville Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the collision and search for the driver who allegedly left the scene.

Hit-and-run investigations can involve several forms of evidence. Law enforcement may review witness statements, surveillance footage, vehicle debris, photographs, roadway evidence, license plate information, and other available records in an effort to identify the missing driver and determine how the collision occurred.

When speed is suspected as a factor, investigators may also examine vehicle damage and other evidence that could help reconstruct the sequence of events.

For injured motorists, documenting medical care and accident-related losses may also be important. Hospital bills, follow-up treatment, rehabilitation expenses, missed wages, towing costs, rental transportation, and vehicle repairs can all become part of the broader financial impact of a serious collision.
