Clovis Woman Arrested After Alleged DUI Hit-and-Run Leaves Pedestrian Critically Injured
Clovis, CA (June 14, 2025) — 45-year-old Francis Portillo of Clovis was arrested Thursday night after allegedly driving under the influence, striking a pedestrian, and fleeing the scene before officers stopped her vehicle nearby.
According to the Clovis Police Department, the crash happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Jefferson and Brookhaven avenues. Responding officers found a man seriously injured in the roadway and immediately began providing life-saving aid.
Investigators identified the driver as Francis Portillo of Clovis. Police said Portillo was instructed to remain at the scene, but instead drove away in a Toyota Camry. Officers quickly located the vehicle and took her into custody after a brief pursuit.
Emergency crews transported the injured pedestrian to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Friday morning.
Portillo was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, evading officers, and possession of a controlled substance.
The Clovis Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
Let’s Drive Safer Together
High-speed crashes can occur in the blink of an eye, but so many are preventable with small, intelligent decisions. Pay attention, don’t get distracted (say, by texting) and never drive after drinking. As ever – obey speed limits, buckle up and keep plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. These are small enough measures to save lives — including your own.
We can all take steps to help keep our roads safe for ourselves, our families and our communities.
Driving under the influence can have devastating consequences for everyone on the road. Motorists should never drive while impaired and should always remain at the scene of a collision to assist injured victims and cooperate with authorities. Responsible choices can help prevent serious injuries and save lives.
What Should You Do When Injured in Hit-and-Run Collision?
If you are injured in a hit-and-run collision, your safety and health come first. Call 911 immediately to report the crash and request medical help. If you are able, try to remember and record any details about the fleeing vehicle—such as the make, model, color, or license plate number. Also, take photos of the scene, your injuries, and any vehicle damage. Gather contact information from any witnesses who saw the crash.
Once you’ve received medical attention, report the incident to the police and get a copy of the report for your records. Notify your insurance company about the hit-and-run as soon as possible; your policy may include uninsured motorist coverage that can help with medical costs and vehicle repairs.
Most importantly, hire Sweet Lawyers’ personal injury attorney. They can help investigate the incident, protect your rights, and work to get you compensation for your injuries, lost wages, and other damages.
