Del Rio Man Arrested for Intoxication Assault Following Serious Two-Vehicle Crash
Del Rio, TX (August 6, 2026) — 32-year-old Francisco Sandoval of Del Rio is facing an intoxication assault charge after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 90 seriously injured another driver.
According to the Del Rio Police Department, the collision happened around 5:37 a.m. along U.S. Highway 90 East near Dallas Drive.
Officers arrived to find both drivers conscious and responsive, although both vehicles had sustained heavy damage. Investigators, with the help of witness accounts, determined that one vehicle had been traveling at a high speed before crashing into another vehicle heading east on the highway.
Paramedics evaluated both drivers at the scene before authorities continued their investigation.
While speaking with one of the drivers, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol. Due to the injuries involved, they did not administer field sobriety tests at the scene.
Police requested a voluntary blood sample, but the driver declined. Investigators later obtained a search warrant to collect a blood sample at Val Verde Regional Medical Center, where it was secured as evidence.
Following the investigation, authorities arrested Francisco Javier Sandoval on a charge of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury. He was booked at the Del Rio Police Department before being transferred to the GEO Correctional Facility.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), a person is injured in a motor vehicle crash every two minutes in Texas. In 2021 alone, more than 239,000 people were hurt in traffic accidents statewide — a sobering reminder that road safety is truly a matter of life and death.
Sadly, reckless and distracted driving continues to claim lives every day. Every few hours, another fatal crash happens somewhere in Texas. That’s why it’s so important to drive defensively, stay alert, follow the speed limit, and keep an eye out for others on the road. Safe driving is everyone’s responsibility.
Driving under the influence puts everyone on the road at risk and can lead to devastating consequences. Choosing a sober driver or alternative transportation can save lives and prevent serious injuries. If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash involving an impaired driver, understanding your legal rights may help you pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages.
Personal Injury Claims After a Traffic Collision: What You Need to Know
When involved in a traffic collision, filing a personal injury claim is necessary to recover damages. This legal process allows the victims to seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other expenses caused by the traffic collision. However, the process is often complex, and understanding how it works is crucial for anyone pursuing a claim.
The first step in a personal injury claim is to determine liability. In most cases, the driver responsible for the traffic accident, which could be due to negligence, distracted driving, speeding, or other factors, will be held accountable. Establishing fault is key to securing compensation. Gathering pieces of evidence such as police reports, traffic camera footage, witness statements, and medical records can strongly prove who was at fault.
Once liability is established, the injured party can then seek compensation for various types of damages. Medical expenses, which include hospital bills, rehabilitation costs, prescription medications, and any long-term care needs, will be a significant part of the claim.
Additionally, if the traffic collision resulted in lost wages or has impacted the victim’s ability to work, these financial losses can also be added to the claim.
Pain and suffering, which is a more subjective form of compensation, is one of the most debated aspects of a personal injury claim. Courts and insurance companies assess this based on how severely the victim was injured and the accident’s impact on the victim’s life, including physical and emotional distress.
Do not forget about the statute of limitations, which dictates the time frame within which a claim must be filed. Failing to file within this period may result in losing the right to pursue compensation.
