Frightening Traffic Collision on 79th Avenue Injures 3 People [Phoenix, AZ]

Phoenix, AZ (June 12, 2025) — Early Thursday morning, three people suffered serious injuries following a head-on collision on 79th Avenue near the border of west Phoenix and Tolleson.

Police officers and firefighters responded to the crash involving a pickup truck and a sedan at about 2:45 a.m. near 79th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Emergency crews arrived to find a woman trapped inside the pickup truck and worked to free her from the vehicle. Authorities transported the woman and two men from the sedan to a local hospital with critical but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to preliminary findings, the pickup truck was traveling westbound on Van Buren Street when it crossed into opposing traffic and collided head-on with the sedan. Investigators believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing. Van Buren Street was closed in both directions west of 79th Avenue as crews worked at the scene and investigators gathered evidence.
