High-Speed Chase in El Paso Ends in Crash That Injures Innocent Bystander
El Paso, TX (August 6, 2026) — Two men accused of stealing an SUV led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through El Paso that ended in a crash on Dyer Street that injured an innocent motorist, leaving one person injured, authorities said.
Police identified the suspects as 22-year-old Angel Aaron Flores of Horizon City and 18-year-old Rafael De Jesus Bustillos of San Elizario. Officers arrested both men Monday near the 8600 block of Dyer Street after the pursuit ended.
Investigators said the incident began early Sunday morning when the suspects allegedly stole a white 2015 Jeep Cherokee from an apartment complex in the Lower Valley. Authorities said one suspect reportedly threatened the vehicle’s owner by displaying a firearm before driving away in the stolen SUV, while the second suspect followed in a red Mazda Tribute. Police later issued a lookout alert for both vehicles.
The following day, officers with the El Paso Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force located the stolen Jeep and monitored it until both suspects returned. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the pair allegedly fled, triggering a pursuit that stretched from Central to Northeast El Paso.
According to investigators, the suspects ignored traffic signals, drove at speeds reaching 120 mph, weaved through traffic, and traveled into oncoming lanes before crashing into another vehicle on Dyer Street. The impact forced the innocent driver’s vehicle into a parking lot, where it struck a parked car. One occupant suffered a head injury and was taken to a hospital.
After the crash, Flores surrendered to officers, while Bustillos allegedly tried to flee on foot before officers captured him. Police said Bustillos also assaulted an officer during the arrest.
Flores faces charges including aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest with a vehicle, failure to stop and render aid after an injury crash, and a parole violation. Bustillos was charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest, and assaulting a peace officer. Both remain in the El Paso County Jail as the case moves forward.
