Fire Engine Hit in Secondary Crash While Crews Aided Injured Driver on Highway 14
Bakersfield, CA (November 20, 2025) — A frightening crash on Highway 14 left one person injured Monday morning after a Kern County fire engine was struck while firefighters were tending to a separate collision victim.
Kern County Fire Department crews from the Mojave station responded around 7:45 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash near Silver Queen Road. As firefighters and Hall Ambulance personnel treated an injured person from the first collision, another crash occurred involving two vehicles passing the scene.
One of the vehicles in that secondary crash spun out of control and hit the parked fire engine. No firefighters, paramedics, or CHP officers were hurt.
Crews immediately checked on those involved in the second collision. One person received treatment on-site before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.
The department noted that roadside emergency work remains dangerous due to fast-moving traffic and unpredictable drivers, urging motorists to slow down, stay alert, and move over when approaching emergency crews.

Traffic collisions can happen anytime, but their impact lasts a lifetime. Stay alert, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence. Always wear your seatbelt, obey speed limits, and be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists. Keep a safe distance between vehicles and adjust your speed for road conditions.
Remember to slow down and move over when you see emergency lights on the roadway. A few seconds of caution can prevent another injury and keep first responders safe.
