Frightening Crash on Highway 65 Led to Injuries [Avalon, MO]

Avalon, MO (August 6, 2026) — Three teenage girls from Chillicothe were injured late Sunday night after a frightening crash on Highway 65 when the SUV they were traveling in struck an animal and crashed.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened along U.S. Highway 65 near Avalon, Missouri, around 11:28 p.m. when a 16-year-old girl was driving a northbound 2011 GMC Terrain. After hitting an animal on the roadway, she lost control of the SUV, which left the road, struck a fence and a large boulder, and eventually came to a stop.

The teenage driver sustained moderate injuries, while her two 18-year-old passengers suffered minor injuries. Emergency responders transported all three victims to Hedrick Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities reported that none of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
