Driver Arrested After High-Speed Crash Critically Injures Passengers in Nisqually Valley
Thurston County, WA (January 26, 2026) — A 22-year-old driver was arrested Saturday night after a high-speed crash on Martin Way East in the Nisqually Valley left a passenger critically injured.
According to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 9 p.m. when a sheriff’s deputy noticed a Dodge Charger traveling about 60 mph in a 35 mph zone on Martin Way East. As the deputy attempted to follow, the driver sped away, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph. Moments later, the vehicle slammed into a cement barrier near the Interstate 5 on-ramp.
Four people were inside the car. One passenger, identified as the driver’s brother, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
Authorities said the injuries appeared severe and may include paralysis. Another passenger sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment. The driver was not reported injured.
Investigators also found a firearm in the vehicle and noted that the car appeared to be equipped with recording equipment commonly used during reckless driving incidents. The driver was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and a domestic violence-related reckless endangerment charge. The investigation remains ongoing.
