Bakersfield, CA (May 13, 2025) — On Saturday evening, 2 people were hurt after a wrong-way crash on Highway 99 that led to the arrest of Gabrielle Monique Valdez of Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 9:10 p.m. to reports of a wrong-way driver on northbound Highway 99 near Rosedale Highway.

Investigators said a 33-year-old woman driving a 2018 Chevrolet Impala was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway when her vehicle collided head-on with a 2003 Honda Accord driven by an 18-year-old woman.

Emergency crews transported both drivers to Kern Medical with minor to moderate injuries.

Authorities later arrested the driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Valdez, on suspicion of DUI. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
