Mountain View, CA (August 29, 2025) On Saturday afternoon, 83-year-old Gayle Maehara Nakano of Palo Alto died after a vehicle struck her in the parking lot of a Walmart Supercenter on Showers Drive.

Police responded around 3:30 p.m. to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

First responders found the woman conscious and provided medical care before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Despite treatment, she passed away on Monday.

The driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police stated that impairment does not appear to have contributed to the crash. The case remains under investigation.
