Driver Injured in Deadly Crash on National Trails Highway in Oro Grande
Oro Grande, CA (February 9, 2026) – George Butterfield, a 71-year-old Helendale resident, was killed in a National Trails Highway collision Friday evening.
The deadly collision involving a black motorcycle and a white Mazda 3 sedan happened at 6:24 p.m. on February 7, 2026, near Wilderness Court in Oro Grande.
Investigators said Butterfield was northbound on National Trails Highway when he lost control of his motorcycle and swerved into oncoming traffic.
The motorcycle then collided head-on with the southbound Mazda.
Immediately, rescuers responded to the scene and rushed Butterfield to the hospital but he later died.
The Mazda driver was also rushed to the hospital in unknown condition.
Anyone with details or who may have witnessed this collision is urged to contact Deputy C. Cherms or Deputy S. Larocco at the Victorville Police Station.
