George Pitman of Bolinas Hurt in Highway 46 Hit-and-Run Crash [San Luis Obispo, CA]

San Luis Obispo, CA (December 2, 2023) On Friday morning, 33-year-old George Pitman of Bolinas was hurt and hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash on Highway 46.

According to the CHP, the 2-vehicle collision happened around 5:10 a.m. along Highway 46 East near the Shandon Rest Area.

Reports say that a truck hauling a trailer pulled out of the rest area, directly in front of a van driven by Pitman. Due to the suddenness of the incident, pitman was not able to avoid the truck and struck the back of the left-rear of the trailer.

The impact of the crash sustained major damages, leaving Pitman trapped inside the van.

Rescuers extricated the injured motorist inside the wrecked vehicle and he airlifted to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. Medics say that Pitman suffered a broken femur and severe head trauma.

Meanwhile, the truck driver failed to stop at the scene and continued heading westbound on Highway 46.

CHP is searching for the suspect driver and vehicle who remains at large.
