According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the deadly incident happened after 1 p.m. south of Peoria Avenue.

Reports say that a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian on Loop 303 in the West Valley on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say that the victim, identified Ortiz Jr. was possibly retrieving a ladder from the roadway when the collision happened. Emergency responders pronounced Ortiz Jr. dead at the scene.

The southbound lanes were closed for several hours following the accident but have since reopened.
