2 Transported Following Soap Lake Vehicle Crash

Soap Lake, WA (February 20, 2026)Ginger Calderon-Goodman, 18, of Soap Lake, was injured following a vehicle crash on SR 28 Wednesday afternoon.

It was before 4 p.m. on February 18 when the collision happened near milepost 50.

According to the authorities, a westbound 2008 Nissan Versa left the freeway to the right. The driver then overcorrected and crossed over the westbound lanes toward the eastbound lanes. As a result, the Nissan struck an oncoming eastbound 2016 Dodge Dart.

The two vehicles rested blocking the eastbound lane.

The Nissan’s driver, Jose Machado Ayala, 42, also of Soap Lake, was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Charges against him are pending.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Dodge, Calderon-Goodman, was rushed to Columbia Basin Hospital.

Investigators determined both drivers were wearing seatbelts during the vehicle crash.

Officers are investigating if drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Traffic accidents can happen in a split second, but their effects can last far beyond the moment of impact. Staying focused behind the wheel—avoiding distractions, never driving under the influence, wearing your seatbelt, and following speed limits—can make a real difference. Being mindful of pedestrians, cyclists, and changing road conditions helps keep everyone safer.

Sweet Lawyers encourages all motorists to drive with care and awareness. If you or someone you love has been injured in a collision, getting medical attention right away is critical. It’s also important to know that legal support is available to help you through the recovery process.

High-speed pursuits can endanger bystanders, passengers, and officers. Drivers should remain vigilant and follow traffic laws to prevent serious injuries in urban areas.
