Keegan Shirley Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash on South Lamar Boulevard  in Austin

AUSTIN, TX (May 4, 2026)— A two-year-old girl died Sunday night after a two-vehicle crash on South Lamar Boulevard involving a pickup truck and an SUV in South Austin.

The Austin Police Department said officers responded around 9:54 p.m. to the 2700 block of South Lamar Boulevard, near Menchaca Road. 

The crash shut down South Lamar Boulevard for several hours overnight. Officers reopened the roadway shortly before 3 a.m. Monday.

Police identified the pickup truck driver as 30-year-old Keegan Shirley. Officers arrested Shirley and charged him with intoxication manslaughter.

Authorities said the child, identified as Abbi Sofia Romero Aular, was riding as a passenger in the SUV. Emergency responders transported her to the hospital, where she later died.

Police said another passenger in the SUV suffered serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

Shirley also faces a charge of intoxication assault with a vehicle, causing serious bodily injury.

The Austin Police Department continues to investigate the fatal crash.
