GMC Driver Airlifted in DUI Crash on Avenue 18 1/2 [Madera County, CA]

Madera County, CA (August 7, 2025) – A GMC driver was seriously injured following a DUI crash on Avenue 18 1/2 Monday afternoon.

It was around 3:30 p.m. when the collision happened at the intersection with Road 19 1/2.

According to the authorities, a 56-year-old man from Gonzalez, was traveling south in a RAM 2500 on Road 19 1/2. He was driving toward the intersection of Avenue 18 1/2. 

Moreover, a 67-year-old Madera man was driving east in a 2010 GMC Yukon on Avenue 18 1/2. He was approaching Road 19 1/2.

The RAM driver crossed over double yellow lines to pass a semi-truck in front of him. The Ram sped through the intersection and t-boned the left side of the GMC.

Afterward, the RAM crashed onto a stop sign, power pole and overturned. It rested against a house on the southeast corner of the intersection. 

Meanwhile, the GMC traveled in the same direction and crashed onto a tree. It finally stopped inside an irrigation canal.

Rescuers extricated the GMC driver and airlifted him to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. His passenger incurred minor injuries and was not transported.

The Ram driver sustained minor injuries.

Investigators said the traffic on Avenue 18 1/2 has the right of way and traffic on Road 19 1/2 is controlled by posted stop signs.

Officers determined the RAM driver to be under the influence of alcohol. They booked him at the Madera County Jail under suspicion of DUI.
