2 Dead in Yosemite Aircraft Accident at Yosemite National Park

YOSEMITE VALLEY, CA (September 22, 2026) – Sunday afternoon, Greg King and another pilot died in a devastating helicopter crash at Yosemite National Park.

The incident occurred at Yosemite National Park.

Reports confirmed that the pilots were the only people aboard the Super Puma helicopter and were employed by Precision, a contract aircraft company. They were working with a wildland firefighting crew that specializes in helitack rappelling, which involves using ropes to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.

Moreover, the helicopter was using a water bucket to help suppress the fire when it crashed southeast of Ostrander Lake, according to Benjamin Cossel, a spokesperson for the Federal Complex Incident Management Team overseeing the firefighting response.

Details about what caused the crash were not immediately released. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.

One of the pilots was identified as Greg King by the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection. Meanwhile, the agency said King had served extensively with the division on wildland fires in Alaska. The identity of the second pilot has not been released.

We express our deepest condolences to the family of the victims.
