1 Dead in Contra Costa County Auto Accident on Balfour Road

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (December 8, 2024) – Saturday morning, a guard died in a horrific vehicle crash on Balfour Road.

The incident occurred when a teenager allegedly crashed his car into an occupied security booth on Balfour Road.

A 17-year-old boy driving a Hyundai Santa Cruz eastbound on Balfour Road allegedly ran through the intersection at Bixler Road, crashing into the guard booth at the Discovery Bay gated community, about 2 miles east of Brentwood.

Two security guards were inside the booth at the time of the crash, which occurred just before midnight Saturday morning, according to CHP Officer Dan Gilmore.

One guard was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital, Gilmore reported.

The driver was briefly hospitalized as a precaution before being arrested and booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall. Intoxication was not believed to be a factor, but the crash remains under investigation, and no cause had been determined as of Saturday afternoon.
