Head-On Collision on State Route 33 Kills 1 [San Joaquin County, CA]

Man Killed, Three Injured in Head-On Crash on SR33 Near Vernalis Road

San Joaquin County, CA (December 21, 2025) — A head-on collision on State Route 33 near Vernalis Road claimed the life of one man and left three others injured Thursday evening.

The crash occurred around 6:35 p.m. when two vehicles collided just north of Vernalis Road. Responding officers determined that a silver 2013 Chevrolet truck was traveling southeast on State Route 33 when it crossed into oncoming traffic. The truck then struck a black 2010 Ford Transit van traveling northwest.

The adult male driver of the van suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. A female passenger and a child riding in the van sustained major injuries and were transported to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Chevrolet truck suffered minor injuries to his arms and legs and was taken to Doctors’ Medical Center.

Investigators stated that alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
