Man Killed, Two Seriously Hurt in Head-On Crash on Highway 62 in New Madrid County

New Madrid County, MO (December 26, 2025) — A head-on collision on US 62 in New Madrid County claimed the life of a 60-year-old Risco man and left two others seriously injured Tuesday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:45 p.m., about three miles east of Malden.

Investigators said a 63-year-old woman from Gideon was driving westbound when her SUV crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Jeep Wrangler.

The driver of the Jeep, a 60-year-old man from Risco, died at the scene. His passenger, a 45-year-old man from New Madrid, and the SUV driver both suffered serious injuries.

Emergency crews transported them to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

Authorities reported that all occupants were wearing seat belts and that both vehicles sustained severe damage. The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
