Hector Ulises Arrested in Shocking Hit-and-Run Crash on SH 100 [Cameron County, TX]

Pedestrian Left Critically Injured After Laguna Heights Hit-and-Run; Four Arrested

Cameron County, TX (April 18, 2026) — A man remains in critical but stable condition after a hit-and-run crash in Laguna Heights, where authorities say Hector Ulises Guzman-Soto and 3 other people fled the scene without helping the victim.

Authorities say that the incident happened around 12:02 a.m. along State Highway 100 near Adams Street. According to investigators, the pedestrian was walking when a westbound 2017 Chevrolet Sonic struck him in the roadway.

Instead of stopping, the driver and three passengers left the injured man behind without rendering aid. Emergency crews later transported the victim to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, where he continues to fight for recovery.

Authorities identified the driver as Guzman-Soto, 26, of Harlingen. He now faces felony charges for failing to stop and render aid and for tampering with evidence. Three passengers—Valerie Rainy Alvarez, Viviana Clarissa Sanchez, and Abelardo Pena—were also arrested and charged with failing to report a felony involving serious bodily injury.

Troopers located the suspected vehicle on April 10, leading to the arrests. All four individuals were taken to the Cameron County Jail.

Officials continue to emphasize the serious legal consequences of leaving the scene of a crash, especially when someone is seriously hurt.

Do The Right Thing. Stay. Help. Take Responsibility.

A hit-and-run is not just a crime, but a devastating act of cowardice leaving victims injured, scared, and sometimes fighting for their lives. If you’re involved in a traffic accident, stop immediately. Call 911. Help those who are hurt.

Remember that fleeing the scene only worsens the situation and carries serious legal consequences, including felony charges. Victims deserve accountability and justice.

Leaving the scene of a crash can cost lives. If a collision occurs, drivers and passengers have a legal and moral responsibility to stop, call for help, and assist the injured. Acting quickly can make the difference between life and death.

Life After a Traffic Accident: What You Should Know

A traffic accident doesn’t truly end when the vehicles are removed from the scene. For many victims, the real impact begins afterward. Physical injuries, emotional distress, and financial burdens can linger long after the crash, making recovery challenging and overwhelming.

Car accident injuries range from minor cuts and bruises to serious conditions like broken bones, spinal injuries, or traumatic brain injuries. Even injuries that seem small at first can develop into long-term health issues. Beyond the physical pain, many people experience anxiety, stress, sleep disturbances, and post-traumatic stress. At the same time, medical bills pile up and missed work leads to lost income, creating additional financial strain.

If someone else’s negligence caused your accident, you may have the right to pursue compensation. This can include coverage for medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, pain and suffering, and future care needs. Understanding your rights is crucial to protecting your future.
