Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Crashing Near Fireworks Crowd in Yuba City
Yuba City, CA (July 7, 2026) — Hirly Aguilar-Gramajo was arrested after crashing a vehicle into protective bollards near a large crowd gathered for a fireworks show in Yuba City on the evening of July 3.
According to the Yuba City Police Department, officers responded around 9:37 p.m. to reports of a vehicle crashing near a group of people along Feather River Parkway, just north of downtown. Initial reports indicated that multiple people may have been injured.
When officers arrived, witnesses had already detained the driver, identified as 30-year-old Hirly Grisell Aguilar-Gramajo of Marysville. Investigators determined she was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police later confirmed that only one person sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.
The investigation found that Aguilar-Gramajo’s vehicle struck a series of protective bollards near 10th Bridge Street. Authorities said the barriers prevented the vehicle from entering an area where approximately 200 people had gathered to watch the fireworks display, likely preventing a far more serious incident.
Aguilar-Gramajo was booked into the Sutter County Jail. She faces charges including driving under the influence, child abuse, and driving without a valid driver’s license. The investigation remains ongoing.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s “Go Safely” campaign reminds everyone that driving under the influence (DUI) doesn’t just refer to alcohol. A DUI can involve any substance—including marijuana, prescription medication, over-the-counter drugs, or illegal substances—that affects your ability to drive safely. Even when taken legally, some medications can slow your reflexes, impair judgment, or make you drowsy behind the wheel.
Every driver has a role to play in preventing tragedies. Despite public awareness efforts, reckless and impaired driving continues to claim lives. In California alone, someone loses their life in a traffic crash every few hours—a heartbreaking reminder of how critical road safety truly is.
Remember, sharing the road means sharing responsibility. Stay alert, respect other drivers, and watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. A moment of care can save a life—perhaps even your own.
Driving under the influence can have life-changing consequences for drivers, passengers, and innocent bystanders. Always arrange for a sober ride home if you plan to drink. Making responsible choices behind the wheel helps protect lives and keeps our communities safe.
A Personal Injury Claim Could Help
A personal injury case is critical after a car accident, especially when there is an injured party caused by another driver’s carelessness. Automobile accidents can lead to painful physical injuries, emotional distress and financial ruin. Medical expenses, lost income, and expenses for long term recovery don’t take long to add up. One option for reaching a fair resolution to these damages is a personal injury lawsuit.
Filing a court action holds the wrongdoer accountable. It also forces insurance providers to offer a reasonable settlement, rather than a low-ball offer that may not be enough to cover all of your losses. In too many instances, the insurers who shouldn’t be in the business of trying to maximize their profits often look for ways to minimize their payouts. And your rights will be protected with the personal injury claim throughout this process.
Also, in a personal injury lawsuit, you may be able to recover noneconomic damages such as pain and suffering or loss of enjoyment of life. It’s often no less important than your medical bills. In suing, you also encourage safer driving by reinforcing the accountability of reckless or negligent drivers.
If you do retain an experienced personal injury lawyer, the case is likely to proceed much more smoothly and not only will you be led through the legal process, you will likely have a better chance of a positive outcome as well.
