Police Investigate Crash Near 48th Avenue in Denver

DENVER, CO (August 22, 2026)— A pedestrian suffered serious injuries early Saturday morning after a driver allegedly struck the person and fled the scene in a crash near 48th Avenue and Kalamath Street, authorities said.

According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the collision occurred at approximately 1:48 a.m.

Authorities said the pedestrian sustained serious injuries in the crash. Additional information about the victim’s condition was not immediately released.

Following the collision, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a statewide Medina Alert as authorities searched for the driver and vehicle believed to have been involved.

Medina Alerts are issued in serious or fatal hit-and-run cases when law enforcement has substantial identifying information about a suspect vehicle, such as its make, model, license plate, or other distinguishing characteristics.

Investigators described the suspect vehicle as a 2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with a gray cab, black truck bed, and blue tailgate. Authorities also said the truck has mismatched wheels on the driver’s side.

According to officials, surveillance footage captured images of both the vehicle and its alleged driver. Authorities described the driver as a white or Hispanic man with dark hair, approximately 25 to 30 years old.

The Denver Police Department continues to investigate the hit-and-run collision and search for the person involved.

Anyone with information about the crash, suspect, or vehicle is urged to contact Denver police at 720-913-2000 or call 911.

Compassionate Support After a Serious Denver Hit-and-Run Collision

A hit-and-run crash can leave an injured pedestrian and their loved ones facing not only physical pain, but also uncertainty about who was responsible and whether that person will be found.

Our thoughts are with the pedestrian seriously injured in this Denver collision and with everyone affected by the incident.

Pedestrians are especially vulnerable when struck by a motor vehicle because they have little protection from the force of impact.

Serious injuries may require emergency treatment, hospitalization, surgery, rehabilitation, follow-up care, and significant time away from work or normal activities.

The emotional impact of knowing that a driver left the scene can make an already difficult recovery even more stressful.

Hit-and-run investigations often rely on many forms of evidence. Police may examine surveillance video, witness accounts, vehicle debris, roadway evidence, traffic-camera footage, and identifying details about a suspected vehicle.

In this case, authorities issued a statewide Medina Alert and released a detailed description of the Chevrolet Silverado they believe was involved. The investigation remains active, and allegations regarding the suspected driver have not been established in court.
