Police Investigate Hit-and-Run Crash on Avenue of the Giants in Miranda

MIRANDA, CA (June 26, 2026)— Emergency personnel responded Thursday morning after a hit-and-run driver reportedly struck a pedestrian in a crash on Avenue of the Giants in Miranda.

The collision was reported shortly before 7:00 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch log, a black BMW struck a pedestrian and fled the scene.

A witness reported that at least three CHP units responded Code 3, with lights and sirens, from the Garberville area.

A short time later, officers located a vehicle believed to be involved. CHP dispatch traffic at 7:08 a.m. indicated that an officer had visual contact with the northbound vehicle near Myers Flat before stopping it. Scanner traffic later indicated that officers detained a suspect by about 7:25 a.m.

Emergency crews established a helicopter landing zone at the South Fork High School athletic field. However, REACH air ambulance declined the response due to weather conditions.

Authorities have not yet released the extent of the pedestrian’s injuries. CHP also has not released details about what led up to the crash.

Social media posts claimed the driver punched a man’s dog before striking the man with the vehicle and fleeing northbound in the black BMW.

Authorities have not independently confirmed those claims.

However, CHP dispatch traffic confirmed that a black BMW was reported to have struck a pedestrian before leaving the scene, and scanner traffic indicated officers later stopped a suspect vehicle near Hidden Springs Road.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Christian Zepeda, officers arrested and booked the male driver into jail. Authorities have not yet released the suspected charges or identified those involved.

The crash remains under investigation, and additional details may be released as more facts become available.

Protecting Injured Pedestrians After a Hit-and-Run Crash

Being struck by a vehicle is traumatic under any circumstances.

When the driver flees the scene, the injured person and their family may feel even more overwhelmed, frightened, and uncertain.

Sweet Lawyers sends sincere support to the pedestrian injured in this Miranda hit-and-run and hopes for a full and steady recovery.

Hit-and-run pedestrian crashes require immediate and careful investigation. Important evidence may include CHP reports, witness statements, vehicle damage, roadway markings, nearby surveillance footage, dispatch logs, medical records, and photos from the scene.

In developing cases, early reports can change as investigators confirm details, so it is important to rely on verified information while still preserving every possible piece of evidence.

Pedestrian injuries can be serious, even when the full extent is not immediately known. Victims may suffer head trauma, broken bones, spinal injuries, internal injuries, soft tissue damage, emotional distress, and long-term pain.

Medical documentation is especially important because some symptoms may appear or worsen after the initial shock fades.

When a driver leaves the scene, injured victims may still have legal options. If authorities identify the driver, that person’s insurance may become part of the claim.

If insurance is unavailable or insufficient, other coverage may apply depending on the circumstances. These cases can become complicated quickly, especially when criminal proceedings, insurance issues, and injury claims overlap.

Sweet Lawyers has decades of experience helping injured pedestrians and hit-and-run victims understand their rights.

Our team provides compassionate guidance, communicates with insurance companies, reviews available evidence, and helps clients pursue fair compensation when negligence causes harm.

This information is not legal advice, and every case depends on its specific facts.
