Maricopa, AZ (March 12, 2026) – A Maricopa teenager avoided serious injury after a driver struck the teen’s e-bike and fled the scene in a crash on Colby and Vintage Drives late Monday night, according to local police.

The crash happened near Colby and Vintage Drives in the Rancho El Dorado neighborhood at about 11 p.m., Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Elle Ortega told InMaricopa. 

Police said a 16-year-old was riding an e-bike when a red SUV-type vehicle hit them. The driver then left the scene before officers could identify the vehicle.

Investigators said they were unable to obtain a license plate number or confirm the make and model of the SUV. 

The teen suffered minor scratches and did not require transport for medical treatment.

A social media post circulating in the community stated the crash may have occurred around 10:30 p.m. and alleged the vehicle ran a stop sign before knocking the teen off the bike. 

The post further claimed the impact threw the rider 10 to 15 feet into the roadway and left red paint along one side of the bike.

Police said no additional details were immediately available. 

The incident comes as Maricopa city officials continue discussing sidewalk and pedestrian safety measures following a recent series of serious crashes involving pedestrians and e-bike riders.
