Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run on Monroe Avenue in Kansas City
Kansas City, MO (August 17, 2025) – A pedestrian died late Saturday night after a horrific hit-and-run crash on Independence Avenue.
According to authorities, shortly after 10 p.m. a speeding driver ran a red light and struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk at Independence Avenue and Monroe Avenue.
Police said that a silver Toyota Camry was heading westbound on Independence Avenue. The car ignored a red light and hit the pedestrian as they crossed from Monroe Avenue. The impact threw the victim to the ground, and the driver ran over them before fleeing the scene.
Emergency crews rushed the victim to a hospital, but they later died from their injuries. Kansas City police confirmed this marks the city’s 47th traffic fatality of 2025.
The incident remains under investigation.
