Motorcyclist Seriously Hurt in I-405 Hit-and-Run Crash Near Renton
Renton, WA (May 15, 2025) — Washington State Patrol troopers are investigating a serious hit-and-run crash on Interstate 405 involving a motorcycle in Renton early Wednesday morning.
Authorities said the collision happened shortly before 5:15 a.m. on southbound Interstate 405 near Sunset Boulevard
Reports say that a southbound vehicle struck a motorcycle traveling in the far-left lane. The impact sent the rider into the left-side barrier and ejected her from the motorcycle.
The driver responsible for the crash fled the scene before emergency crews arrived.
Medics transported the injured rider, a 44-year-old woman from Sammamish, to Valley Medical Center in Renton for treatment. Officials are investigating the case as a vehicular assault hit-and-run.
The crash forced the closure of southbound lanes for more than two and a half hours while troopers and fire crews worked at the scene. Traffic backups stretched for over two miles before all lanes reopened shortly before 8 a.m.
Investigators continue searching for the suspect vehicle, but authorities have not released a description at this time.
Keeping the Road Safe is Everyone’s Responsibility
Be a defensive driver to prevent road accidents. Stay alert, maintain a safe distance, and always expect the unexpected. Avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and use your signals. Watch for pedestrians and cyclists. A proactive, cautious approach keeps everyone safer on the road. Drive smart, drive safe!
Motorcyclists face serious risks on busy highways, especially during early morning travel. Drivers should stay alert, check blind spots carefully, and never leave the scene of a crash. Reporting an accident immediately can help save lives and ensure injured victims receive urgent medical care.
What Should You Do When Injured in Hit-and-Run Collision?
If you are injured in a hit-and-run collision, your safety and health come first. Call 911 immediately to report the crash and request medical help. If you are able, try to remember and record any details about the fleeing vehicle—such as the make, model, color, or license plate number. Also, take photos of the scene, your injuries, and any vehicle damage. Gather contact information from any witnesses who saw the crash.
Once you’ve received medical attention, report the incident to the police and get a copy of the report for your records. Notify your insurance company about the hit-and-run as soon as possible; your policy may include uninsured motorist coverage that can help with medical costs and vehicle repairs.
