CHP Searching for Hit-and-Run Driver After Fatal Crash in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (October 03, 2025) — Authorities are searching for the driver of a Chevy Silverado who fled the scene of a deadly crash on South H Street early Thursday morning.

According to authorities, the collision happened around 5:18 a.m. at South H Street and Houghton Road.

Investigators said a 33-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Impala had stopped at the intersection before attempting to turn south onto South H Street.

At that moment, a white 2008 Silverado traveling eastbound on Houghton Road ran a stop sign and slammed into the passenger side of the Impala. The impact caused the Silverado to overturn and land on its side.

The 26-year-old front passenger of the Impala died at the scene. The driver sustained minor injuries, while a 45-year-old passenger suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical.

The Silverado’s driver ran from the crash on foot and remains at large. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
