1 Dead in Pemiscot County Auto Accident on Interstate 55 near Hayti

PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (June 23, 2026) – Sunday afternoon, a 70-year-old woman died in a horrific 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Hayti.

The incident happened at about 3:33 p.m. on southbound Interstate 55, around 5 miles south of Hayti.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash involved a GMC Yukon and a Ford Escape.

Troopers said the Ford Escape left the roadway and overturned after the collision.

The driver of the Escape, a 70-year-old woman from Hayti Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Yukon, a 48-year-old man from Caruthersville, reported no injuries.

Authorities said the Hayti Heights woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The fatality marked the 23rd traffic-related death in the patrol’s region for 2026, according to MSHP.
