1 Dead in Austin Traffic Crash on North MoPac Expressway and US 183

AUSTIN, TX (December 17, 2025) – Tuesday morning, a person died in a horrific auto accident on North MoPac Expressway and US 183.

The incident happened at about 9:14 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the North MoPac Expressway near the 8100 block, just south of U.S. 183.

Police reported a fatal crash on MoPac at U.S. 183, with one person pronounced dead at the scene. Vehicular homicide detectives are investigating the incident.

All southbound lanes, on-ramps, and toll lanes at the location were temporarily closed, along with nearby intersections at West Anderson Lane and Spicewood Springs Road. Lanes reopened by 12:27 p.m. Drivers were advised to expect delays and seek alternate routes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
