Truck Driver Killed in Horrific Big Rig Crash on 2600 W Expressway 83 [Mission, TX]

MISSION, TX (July 1, 2024) – Saturday morning, a 51-year-old truck driver died in a horrific big rig crash on 2600 W Expressway 83.

Reports said that a big rig driving along the 2600 block of W. Expressway 83 in Mission crashed into a home. Despite first responders’ efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Meanwhile, the cause of the big rig veering off the roadway remains unclear, but it appeared to have cut a straight path across a parking lot before coming to a stop deep inside the house.

The home, which was for sale, sustained significant damage, though fortunately, no one was inside at the time. A realtor had a showing scheduled for 10 a.m., about an hour after the crash occurred. Additionally, a nearby Fiat was struck, and its driver was taken to a hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.

Alejandro Avila, an employee at a neighboring tire shop, witnessed the truck heading toward his building and quickly ran to safety. “I thought it was going to hit our building, so I panicked and probably ran out that back door,” Avila recounted. “It missed the building by a couple of feet … no one lives in that house, and thankfully it didn’t hit our building.”

An autopsy has been ordered for the truck driver. Mission is located approximately 250 miles south of San Antonio.
