5-Year-Old Suffers Minor Injuries After Being Struck by Vehicle in Tacoma
Tacoma, WA (June 17, 2025) — A 5-year-old child sustained minor injuries after a frightening crash on McKinley Avenue, where a vehicle struck them on Sunday morning.
The incident happened around 11:54 a.m. in the 4000 block of McKinley Avenue, just north of East 43rd Street. Tacoma police and fire crews responded within minutes and found the child conscious and able to walk despite suffering road rash from the collision.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Emergency personnel evaluated the child, who was reported to have only minor injuries.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
Traffic accidents can happen in the blink of an eye — but their effects can last a lifetime. Every time you get behind the wheel, remember: staying alert and making safe choices can save lives. Avoid distractions, never drive under the influence, and always wear your seatbelt. Follow speed limits, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and watch out for pedestrians and cyclists who share the road with you.
Take that extra moment to look both ways and yield cautiously at intersections — sometimes, that one second of attention can prevent a serious or even life-threatening crash.
Children can be difficult to see, especially in residential areas and near intersections. Drivers should stay alert, reduce speed in neighborhoods, and watch carefully for pedestrians to help prevent serious accidents.
A Personal Injury Claim Could Help
A personal injury case is critical after a car accident, especially when there is an injured party caused by another driver’s carelessness. Automobile accidents can lead to painful physical injuries, emotional distress and financial ruin. Medical expenses, lost income, and expenses for long term recovery don’t take long to add up. One option for reaching a fair resolution to these damages is a personal injury lawsuit.
Filing a court action holds the wrongdoer accountable. It also forces insurance providers to offer a reasonable settlement, rather than a low-ball offer that may not be enough to cover all of your losses. In too many instances, the insurers who shouldn’t be in the business of trying to maximize their profits often look for ways to minimize their payouts. And your rights will be protected with the personal injury claim throughout this process.
Also, in a personal injury lawsuit, you may be able to recover noneconomic damages such as pain and suffering or loss of enjoyment of life. It’s often no less important than your medical bills. In suing, you also encourage safer driving by reinforcing the accountability of reckless or negligent drivers.
If you do retain an experienced personal injury lawyer, the case is likely to proceed much more smoothly and not only will you be led through the legal process, you will likely have a better chance of a positive outcome as well.
