Horrific Crash on North Stark Avenue Kills 1

82-Year-Old Liberty Man Killed in Clay County Lawn Mower Crash

Clay County, MO (September 6, 2026) — On Thursday afternoon, an 82-year-old Liberty man died after a shocking crash on North Stark Avenue, where a car struck the riding lawn mower he was operating in rural Clay County.

The crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. near North Stark Avenue, north of 122nd Terrace. According to a preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the man was riding a Skag lawn mower when he entered the roadway and moved into the path of a southbound 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

The Malibu, driven by a 63-year-old Liberty man, struck the rear of the mower. Emergency responders transported the lawn mower operator to a hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead at approximately 2:50 p.m.

The Malibu driver also went to a hospital and received treatment for minor injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
