Horrific Crash on Van Ness Avenue Injures 2 Women [Fresno, CA]

Fresno, CA (May 23, 2025) — On Thursday, 2 women suffered injuries after a brief pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash on Van Ness Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers spotted a silver Volvo sedan near Van Ness and Harvard avenues that matched the description of a stolen vehicle. As officers attempted to verify the license plate, the driver sped away, leading police on a short chase through a residential neighborhood.

The pursuit lasted about three minutes before the Volvo ran a stop sign at Palm Avenue and collided with a northbound Subaru. The impact caused the Volvo to overturn onto its passenger side, while the Subaru veered off the road and struck two parked vehicles in a driveway.

CHP officers removed the occupants of the overturned Volvo through the windshield. During the rescue, one officer suffered a minor eye injury from broken glass.

Investigators identified the driver as a 16-year-old runaway from San Diego. Authorities arrested her on suspicion of felony evading, DUI causing injury, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Police also arrested the passenger, 36-year-old Shawn Ricord, on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

Both suspects suffered minor injuries and were booked into custody. Two women riding in the Subaru reported minor pain but declined hospital treatment after being evaluated at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
