1 Dead in Maricopa Auto Accident on John Wayne Parkway and Sonoran Desert Parkway

MARICOPA, AZ (September 22, 2025) – Friday, a person died in a horrific head-on crash on John Wayne Parkway and Sonoran Desert Parkway.

The incident happened on John Wayne Parkway, south of Sonoran Desert Parkway.

According to reports, one of the vehicles entered the wrong lane of travel and collided head-on with another vehicle, officials said. 

Both drivers suffered life-threatening injuries, and one died while being rescued from the crash, officials said. 

“Due to the magnitude and the subsequent fatality, the Pinal County Vehicular Crimes Unit (VCU) has been asked to assist in the investigation, which is ongoing,” officials said in a statement. 

The victim in the crash has not been identified. 

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
