SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 22, 2026) – Saturday morning, a driver died in a horrific high-speed crash on 2400 Interstate 35 near Powell Street.

The incident happened at about 1:00 a.m. on 2400 block of Interstate 35 frontage road, near Powell Street.

Police said a 25-year-old man was driving at a high rate of speed when he attempted to take a curved exit. He lost control of the vehicle, which crashed and caught fire, according to SAPD. An SAPD captain at the scene said the car struck a utility pole.

Several occupants were able to get out of the vehicle and tried to rescue the driver, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One passenger was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
