1 Dead in San Marcos Pedestrian Accident near N Pacific Street and W Mission Road

SAN MARCOS, CA (February 23, 2026) – Saturday night, a pedestrian died in a horrific hit-and-run crash near N Pacific Street and W Mission Road.

The incident happened at about 8:34 p.m. near N Pacific Street and W Mission Road, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Office. 

Deputies responded to the area and found a victim lying in the roadway near a damaged 2022 Hyundai Venue SUV. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released.

According to SDSO, the driver fled on foot toward Mission Avenue. Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic man. K-9 units and drones were deployed to assist in the search, but the suspect had not been located.

The San Marcos Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 760-510-5200.
