1 Dead in San Jose Pedestrian Accident on Bernal Road near Via Del Oro

SAN JOSE, CA (August 4, 2026) – Sunday morning, a horrific hit-and-run crash on Bernal Road near Via Del Oro killed 1 person.

The incident happened just after 2:00 a.m. on Bernal Road near Via Del Oro.

According to the San Jose Police Department, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a suspected intoxicated driver.

Police said the suspect was driving a black 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck when he struck the pedestrian, who died from the collision. The driver fled the scene but was later located in San Jose.

Investigators determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter, and felony hit-and-run.

The crash marks San Jose’s 26th fatal traffic collision of 2026. Police have not released the names of the driver or the victim.
