1 Dead in Houston Pedestrian Accident on Gulf Freeway

HOUSTON, TX (September 7, 2026) – Sunday morning, a man died in a horrific hit-and-run crash on Gulf Freeway.

The man was struck and killed after jumping from a moving pickup during an argument with his sister at 2:30 a.m. on the Gulf Freeway, according to HPD.

Police said the man was riding in the back seat of a pickup with his sister, her boyfriend, and his own girlfriend after leaving Whiskey River nightclub. The siblings began fighting for an unknown reason, and police said the brother punched his sister from behind.

Investigators said the man then tried to jump from the vehicle. His sister and her boyfriend attempted to stop him, but he eventually opened the pickup’s door and stepped onto the freeway while the vehicle was traveling about 60 mph.

Witnesses driving behind the pickup swerved to avoid the man, but a white Chevrolet Camaro struck him and continued driving, police said.

HPD is still searching for the Camaro and its driver.
