1 Dead in South Los Angeles Pedestrian Accident on Vermont Avenue and W 83rd Street

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (August 17, 2026) – Late Thursday night, a 62-year-old man in a wheelchair died in a horrific hit-and-run crash on Vermont Avenue.

Police said the crash happened around 10:40 p.m. at Vermont Avenue and West 83rd Street. A car traveling north on Vermont Avenue struck the pedestrian as he was crossing in a marked crosswalk, then fled without stopping.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later died. His identity has not been released.

Authorities are offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the driver.
