1 Dead in Santa Cruz Motorcycle Accident on Empire Grade and Heller Drive

SANTA CRUZ, CA (May 7, 2026) – Monday afternoon, a 21-year-old rider died in a horrific motorcycle crash on Empire Grade and Heller Drive.

The incident happened at 4:45 p.m. on Empire Grade north of Heller Drive.

Authorities said a 21-year-old man from Pescadero was riding a 1999 Harley-Davidson northbound when it collided with a southbound 2025 Dodge Ram 2500 towing a flatbed trailer.

The California Highway Patrol said both vehicles were traveling at unknown speeds and crashed for reasons still under investigation.

The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Natividad Medical Center, where he later died.

The pickup driver was not injured. Authorities said it is still unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
